What to see

  • Brick walls: below the second floor the original bricks were preserved; the third floor was rebuilt to match the original design.
  • Slate roof: a black natural-slate roof, with domestic slate used for the north and south domes among other parts.
  • Eagles in the domes: eight eagle reliefs sit in the octagonal corners under the domes.
  • Zodiac carvings: eight of the twelve zodiac animals are carved in the domes, placed by compass direction.

History

Construction began in 1908 and the station opened in December 1914. The roof was lost in wartime bombing, and the building was restored to its original appearance in 2012.
